Devon Record Office has chosen the Fairlynch as a service point to assist people who find it difficult to make the journey to Exeter or Barnstaple to carry out research on their family, house etc.The museum now holds microfiche copies of Parish registers (containing baptisms, marriages and burials), and non conformist registers. Soon we hope to add the Tithe Map Index, although this can be seen in hard copy. The microfiche records at Fairlynch cover the parishes of Bicton, Budleigh Salterton, East Budleigh, Colaton Raleigh, Littleham (Exmouth), Lympstone, Otterton, Withycombe Raleigh, and Woodbury. There is also a register for Budleigh Salterton Wesleyan Methodist circuit.

Dead Calm - Sunset in the Bight at Exmouth

A painting by Francis Danby (1793 - 1861)

On loan from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter

Francis Danby lived in Exmouth from 1846 until his death in 1861. He lived first in Rill Cottage below Marpool Hill, which would have presented much the view of the Bight that is seen in this painting of 1855.
